Family: Fabaceae
Botanical name: Gossweilerodendron balsamiferum Harms
Trademarks: Tola, Tola White (Eng.); Tola (Fr.) Agba (Ing.); White silly; Nigerian cedar.
Durability: Moderately durable. It is susceptible to attack by fungi and borers.
Technological properties:
• Workability: easy to work, either by mechanical means or with manual tool. The conversion of logs for sawing or unwinding arise sometimes difficulties due to the sporadic presence of extensive gum pockets.
• Drying: performed with relative ease and speed by little tendency that this wood has to open cracks or warping. In artificial drying low temperatures are desirable to avoid excessive exudation of gum.
• Finish: and receives paints, varnishes and polishing, which makes it possible, provided that it does not verify afterwards gum exudations, a perfect finish.
• Bonding: glue satisfactorily.
Main applications:
• Lining and paneling
• Construction: mainly as wood clean and shipbuilding.
• furnishing: car interiors.
• Joinery: solid or veneered pieces.
• Other: widely used in the plywood industry and also in plywood manufacturing for furniture.
